Burgess And Goater

Normally, we don’t go as far as passing rumours via an article as far as player targets are concerned.

However, tonight, with news from a reliable source and it being silly season and all that we thought we would join in by passing on the news that we have heard.

First off, we have been told that Swans manager Kenny Jackett has been in talks with veteran striker Shaun Goater – a name banded about by many before transfer deadline day last season. Jackett was keen to add a proven goalscorer to his squad and saw Goater as the ideal partner for Lee Trundle to lead the attack in league one. However, it is believed that the wages – around ร‚ยฃ2,000 per week – are proving a stumbling block and may kill the deal at the first hurdle. What price you could put on a striker of Goater’s ability is difficult to put into context but I would suggest that even at ร‚ยฃ2k per week he is not far off the mark but let’s see what happens.

Secondly, we have all read today that Andy Burgess has been placed on the Rushden transfer list at his own request. Nothing new there but tonight we have been given information to suggest that he will be in South Wales on Friday to discuss a potential deal with a new club. All good so far? The flip side to this news is that his destination for these talks is Cardiff. That is not to say that he is having talks with the championship side but that is where talks are taking shape. So if anyone sees Kenny joining the M4 on Friday heading East then it could be good news for us as a club.

Burgess was refused a transfer request back in February around the time that the Swans first showed an interest but at the same time we do not know that we are the only club to have expressed an interest in him.

There – now you know as much as we do!
