Blast From The Past – Jeremy Charles Jeremy Charles burst on to the scene in a League Cup match against Newport County in the mid seventies. He always was going to be labelled as the nephew of the Gentle Giant and the son of Mel. But in all fairness Charlo held his own and he was a local boy made good – (we havent had too many of them of late) but two special memories stick in my mind scoring against Preston to clinch promotion to the First Division and then scoring the first ever goal in the top flight against Leeds on that unbelievable Saturday afternoon.(I was in Boarding school at the time and in those days teletext was a thing of the future and Sky had just had not been invented – I had to keep pinching myself) Jeremy Charles may have gone onto bigger things but for injuries and he has been involved with Oxford and Southampton in recent years. I even managed to get my picture taken with him prior to the kick off against Shrewsbury. Submitted By Ian Curtis Planet Swans Archives By Planet Swans Archives You may also like...
