First Signing Tomorrow

Swansea City are preparing to unveil their first signing of the summer tomorrow after almost eight weeks of the close season.

After much speculation, rumour, gossip and set backs tomorrow will see the first signing of the summer, the first of what we hope be several new additions to the squad before August 6.

And if reports from the North of England are to be believed then the signing will be former loan winger Marc Goodfellow after we are reported to have beaten off league new comers Carlisle for his signature.

Carlisle’s official site reports

24 year old left winger Marc Goodfellow has opted to join Swansea City after a few weeks of deliberation following talks with manager Paul Simpson about a move to Brunton Park.

Goodfellow, who spent a period on loan with the Swans last season, decided to take the opportunity of playing League One football next season but has admitted to being very interested in the terms offered by Carlisle United.

Simmo said, “I’ve spoken to him over the course of the last 3 or 4 weeks and we offered him personal terms last week. We’d already agreed a deal with Bristol City but when a club from a higher division comes in it is always going to be tempting for a player. We can’t blame him for that, it’s all part of football, so we’ll continue our search for the players we want.”

Goodfellow spent a month on loan at Swansea before and after Christmas and scored three times in a period that saw the Swans’ most fluent football of the promotion winning season. An immediate bid was turned down after his recall with the club claiming that Bristol City were wanting too much money. However, reports in the close season have suggested that the required amount may now only be £15,000 and that seems enough to have persuaded Kenny Jackett to make his first signing.

And with Andy Burgess reported to also be in negotiations it could be a case that the signing of the second is just around the corner. Whispers also suggest that there could be a third, but yet unnamed player on his way to the Vetch after some non-disclosure discussions.

Patience was what it took and could the rewards now be imminent?
