I always remember the first time I saw Alan Davies was when he played for Manchester United in the FA Cup final against Brighton in he 1980’s. One immediately thought a Welshman playing for one of the top teams could only boost Welsh football. He joined the Swans and for a while he had a good influence with his neat touches and silky skills. He mainly played in midfield occupying the central area and sometimes on the flank.
I can recall watching a game against that team from up the M4 – I have great difficulty remembering the name of that team but on that day Alan Davies scored from a free kick which he hit with the outside of his foot. Unfortunately he fell out of favour and he was so disillusioned with his demise he sadly ended up taking his own life down on the Gower. I always remember hearing those fateful words on the radio – Swans footballer found dead but his memory lives on especially for scoring that goal against the scum.
