Swansea 3 Peterborough 1

Strange game tonight in so much as I wouldn’t have expected us to end with such a full strength side but there we go.

My initial thought when given the team-sheet was that Kenny meant business you have to believe that when we have a bench containing Martinez, OTJ, Trundle, Leon and Freezer. That must be enough to worry the opposition alone.

The game started worryingly with KOL stretchered off with a bad looking injury. Even from the gods where I was sat you could see it was bad the instant he went down – those pitch side said he called for Richie himself as he lay there. How bad, who knows but that there OTJ into the fray.

For the rest of the first 45 I would say we were second best. We struggled in most departments to stamp any authority on the game and although Murphy had little to do the visitors were the better side.

Sorry guys but Shaun Macdonald is not currently up to first team football and that was so evident this evening.ย ย Lightweight in the extreme.

Mr Singh was as fussy as you would expect handing out yellow cards for nothing and then being called to give the same punishment for two bad fouls. five yellows in the first half set that tone. Second half we introduced Roberto at the break and what a difference. Bring the ball down, look up, pass it around, all the things that we didn’t do in the first period.

Much improved but lacking a final ball. Connor and Bayo both having goals ruled out for offside. At the other end Peterborough again were little threat despite some good possession. Bayo missed another free header over – some work needed on heading downward but not too far as their man discovered soon after as he headed down so hard it bounced back up and over the bar. The predictable introduction of Trundle came with 20 mins to go but to no avail in terms of creation of chances although you could see a difference in our play.

The game seemed to swing in our favour with two mins to go when they lost a man following a dreadful challenge on Roberto. Second yellow and you’re out kind of thing and surely with a man advantage we would go through. So it would seem not as we were undone by a sucker punch goal two mins into stoppage time.

Well finished at the end of a good move. Kick up the arse. Bayo equalised within a minute side footing home a precision ball from Macca and soon after Robbo broke through before smacking home from close range having drawn the keeper. 6 goals in 5 games now from Robbo – scoring in each of them – some run of form he has hit. Bayo’s second in the second period of extra time was a great solo effort after winning the ball himself a full 40 yards out. He ran, drew the keeper and finished well to kill the game off and take the Swans into the semi finals of the Southern Section. 3 games from Cardiff.

Shame we had to wake up only after we went a goal down but we did it and 3-1 maybe flattered us slightly but who cares. 5400 and a few – decent crowd again for this stage of the competition, a home draw again next round will see it increase slightly.

If we get to the area final then the crowd will really flock.
