Well, let’s state my thought early. It’s exactly what I wanted. Yes, yes I hear the arguments about injuries and suspensions blah blah blah but on that basis should the players not train in case they get an injury? Maybe we should wrap them in cotton wool and only let them out for 90 minutes every now and again. And while we are doing that lets ask them if they want the chance to play in front of maybe 50,000 at the Millennium Stadium.

I want to win this game. Badly. I prayed that Colchester losing 3-0 at home yesterday would see them heading here so deflated on Tuesday that we can build a several goal lead to take with us next week. I also hoped that the deflation carried on long enough to spoil their promotion chances. Failing that let’s hope that if we beat them over two legs that is enough to deflate them even if losing to Southend heavily didn’t.

I also see it as a great chance to extend our squad. Other than the back line it’s getting close to being at full strength. The game gives the chance to get Darren Way back into action and at least one new striker will have to come in as Fallon is cup tied. As is Tom Williams. And imagine what a win could do for our confidence heading into the final 10 league games. Especially if there is a cup final place to play for – 3 league games to stake your claim to represent the club at the biggest stadium in Wales. And an awesome stadium at that.

I remember Wembley 1994 as if it was yesterday. It was a cracking day out and the realisation of a dream to see my team at the most famous stadium in the country. I lived that dream and will never forget it. I want to live it again – but this time I want to live it at a ground less than 25 miles from my house. At a ground in my own country with the nation watching the game on television. I want my club to gain the money that would go with that and I want to see us lifting that trophy in a darkened Millennium Stadium.

Now I hear the “would you take promotion or the LDV Trophy” coming from the detractors. Why do the two have to be exclusive? Indeed, I would argue that beating Colchester over two legs would actually enhance our chances of promotion rather than reduce. A huge confidence boost would surely come from beating one of the division’s best sides?

The only downside I see to the two games against Colchester is the timing of the second leg – we probably should have refused the initial request to change the dates – but that is water under the bridge and let’s go for it.

Swansea at the Millennium Stadium – it could happen.
