Taking A Break

Well that’s it for nearly two weeks, two weeks until we play in the league again. In the meantime we do of course have two cup finals, two games that could bring us trophies. Trophies that are nice to have, but in footballing terms that’s all they are, they don’t lead on to something else. What we will get out of these games however is money, maybe £100k from the FAW and anything in the region of £450k from the FLT. That’s big money for the club, when, in the summer, we take stock of what we have, and what we need.

The question is where will we be next season, the Championship, or League 1? There will inevitably be more twists and turns before the season ends. Apart from Southend who are now 8 points clear at the top, there are only 3 points separating the next 6 teams. Add to that Forest who may make a late run.

Brentford play their game in hand away at MK dons in the week. Let’s not forget that MK Dons beat Southend at home only the other week. Can they do a double as Gillingham did against Brentford and us? Who knows? Next Saturday is then another big game with Colchester against Brentford.

So although we’re downhearted after yesterdays result, there is still everything to play for.

Just look at the games left for the other clubs:

Southend

Home – Blackpool, Gillingham, Doncaster and Bristol City

Away – Bournemouth, Barnsley and Swansea

Huddersfield

Home – Barnsley, Chesterfield and Yeovil

Away – Gillingham, Bournemouth, Walsall and Swindon

Brentford

Home – Bradford, Blackpool and Hartlepool

Away – MK Dons, Colchester, Rotherham, Swindon and Bournemouth

Colchester

Home – Brentford, Hartlepool, Tranmere and Rotherham

Away – Forest, Chesterfield, Bournemouth and Yeovil

Barnsley

Home – Chesterfield, Southend and Bradford City

Away – Huddersfield, Oldham, Blackpool and Walsall

Oldham

Home – MK Dons, Barnsley, Swansea and Scunthorpe

Away – Hartlepool, Bristol City and Doncaster

Forest

Home – Colchester, Yeovil and Bournemouth

Away – Chesterfield, Tranmere, Hartlepool and Bradford City

And of course Swansea

Home – Swindon, Rotherham and Southend

Away – P Vale, Blackpool, Oldham and Chesterfield

We can all try and predict the outcome of all these games, but it’s already been shown over the last couple of weeks that results haven’t gone to plan. What can be said is, when we play our next league game, in just under 2 weeks, away at Port Vale, the 3 points will still be as important as they look now.

Until then let’s just enjoy the break from the league, let others do the worrying.
