Sometimes in football you don’t get what you deserve. And for a brief moment after a defensive mix up between Keith Lowe and Willy Gueret gave Swindon a lead at White Rock it looked as if that may be one of those nights for the Swans. But cometh the hour, cometh the man, who so often these days is Andy Robinson who put behind him two glaring misses to fire one goal and create another for Adrian Forbes to put the Swans right back in the promotion mix on a nervy night.
You have to admire Andy Robinson. His dad is seriously ill and for the past couple of games he has looked a little jaded. It would have been easy for him tonight to let his head drop – particularly after one of his misses was followed immediately by Swindon taking the lead. But he didn’t and his return of 18 goals this season from midfield has passed epic porportions and surely for those efforts alone he will find himself very possibly a clear winner when the Swans fans hand out the gongs at the end of the season.
But it’s not just Robinson the goalscorer that impresses, his vision to lay on the ball that saw Adrian Forbes for the second goal was a touch of genius and his reaction as he celebrated on the halfway line showed a release of pent up emotions and somewhere back on Merseyside would have put the broadest possible smile on the face of his family.
As expected, following defeat at Port Vale on the weekend, Jackett made two changes with Robbo and captain Roberto back into the starting line up at the expense of the injured KOL and Leon Knight who dropped to the bench

The Swans had the best of the first half with some good passing although at times the midfield looked a little lost with Leon surprisingly quiet on the right wing. Up front Bayo and LT10 were combining well and LT10 in particular delivering some dangerous corners that the Swindon defence struggled to deal with. However, for our efforts we were failing to force saves from the Swindon keeper – indeed probably the only save we forced him into was missed by both referee and linesman! Swindon were restricted to a couple of almost half hearted long range efforts that Willy could save for fun and at 0-0 at the interval it was no major surprise to see that scoreline.
What we knew at the interval though was that we had to win this one and it was there for the taking. No immediate changes but it was blatantly obvious then that a blank scoreline would see them not far away. And sure enough they soon came with Forbesy and Rory replacing Bayo and Leon. And almost immediately the changes almost paid dividends with Robbo screwing wide after being played in by a good move involving both new additions.
But disaster was just around the corner. There seemed little danger when Lowe headed the ball back to Willy but a slightly under hit header and a slightly hesitant goalkeeper into the bargain and you have a goal for the visitors and what could have been a fatal blow to our automatic promotion chances.
It needed twenty five minutes of Swansea passion and it came. Robinson equalised after being laid in by the perfect pass from Rory who is getting more and more of the crowd behind him with every passing game. There is a real feeling now that people want him to succeed. Trundle had two good chances to score – both well saved by the keeper – before Forbes turned and finished a pin point Robinson pass to give the Swans the lead. A lead they retained to the last minute and could have extended when Trundle took the wrong option.
It mattered not and the three points were there for the Swans to put into the bag. The first of six cup finals – the second of which will take place on Saturday at Blackpool. The same result will do nicely
