Forbes Slams Club

Released winger Adrian Forbes has used the Evening Post to hit back at the way he feels he has been treated in the last six months of his Swansea career. Forbes, released after the play off final defeat claims he was promised a new contract at the end of last year but since then has been messed around and given false promises. He even claims that Jackett could not be bothered to wait ten minutes for him when he ran late for their meeting on Sunday last.

Speaking to EP reporter Gareth Vincent, Forbes said ”The way they treated me was a disgrace. ”I understand that in football everybody moves on eventually, but I hoped the club would have shown me a bit more respect for what I’ve done for them. ”I was called in for a meeting in November where they told me they wanted to give me a new deal by Christmas. I told them I was settled and happy. In fact I remember saying to the boss: ‘Anyone who leaves Swansea City now is a fool because it’s a club moving forward’. ”The boss (Jackett) said: ‘If we put something in front of you that’s acceptable, will you sign it?’. I said: ‘Just give me the pen, it’s a done deal’. ”Kenny Jackett said that to me, but the chairman knew what was going on as well. They did that to tie me down, to make me feel wanted so I wouldn’t want to go anywhere in January. ”But then nothing was said until March, when they invited my agents down to sort out this deal before the Brentford game. ”My agents came all the way from London expecting to get something sorted but they just fed them another load of lies. What was the idea behind that?’

”I was originally booked into see the boss at 10am in the morning, but I swapped with Roberto (Martinez), who was due in at 11am, because I had family down for the play-off final and they needed a lift to Cardiff airport,” Forbes explained. ”Coming back from Cardiff I realised I was going to be a little bit late so I phoned the boss and left a message on his mobile. ”I was due in at 11am, I got there at 11.10 and he’d already gone. ”I’d waited a year to see him about my contract and I thought he could at least have waited 10 minutes. ”I tried to ring him again because I thought he couldn’t be far away so I could go and meet him, but my calls were ignored. ”I was at a party celebrating the christening of my old Norwich team-mate Chris Llewellyn’s child when he finally rang me back at 7pm to tell me there would be no contract. ”I probably sound bitter to some people, but I just feel I deserved to be treated a little better than that.’

”I’ve not started a lot of games this year because Leon Britton has been superb and again that’s not a problem, that’s the game. ”But I’d say I haven’t let anyone down when I have come in. I had one shocking game at home to Port Vale, but I think when I’ve come on I’ve made a difference to the team and sometimes lifted the fans. ”I’m very sad to be leaving those fans and, while I hope to stay in League One, it would be difficult playing against them. ”I got a bit of stick for about three months when I first joined Swansea, but after that I think they saw I’m a 110 per cent player and their attitude towards me was great. ”I’m really keen to say a big thank you to them for all their support.”

Forbes was released along with Roberto Martinez and Brian Murphy both who have remained tight lipped about their release. We would like to wish Adrian the very best for his wedding tomorrow.
