A statement on the official site read

Swansea City has today made an official bid for Wycombe Wanderers’ skipper Roger Johnson. The 23 year old central defender played 50 games in all competitions last season for the Chairboys and managed to score 8 goals.

Johnson is currently contracted to Wycombe until June 2007, however Kenny Jackett has identified the stopper as his first summer target. The offer has now been formally lodged with the Wycombe Chairman, and the Swans are awaiting a response.

Johnson’s profile on the Wycombe official site reads: –

A 6’3″ defender, Roger joined the Youth setupfrom Portsmouth in 1998 and, after some outstanding performances, made his first team debut at Cambridge United in the last game of the 1999/2000 season.

In doing so, he became the youngest player to play for the club in the Football League, aged just 17 years and 8 days.

Unfortunately, just as he was beginning to settle in at first team level, he collected a nasty injury at Bournemouth in mid-February 2002 and missed the remainder of that season.

He impressed again on his return the following season to the extent that he was given the Captain’s armband by Lawrie Sanchez for the home game against Stockport in April 2003.

The introduction of Tony Adams saw Roger initially struggle to hold down a regular place in the side and after winning it back, a troublesome start to 2004/2005left him down the pecking order.

However, when John Gorman arrived, his was selected as skipper once more and signed a new contract in January 2005, which will see him through at Wycombe until 2007.

Whether Swansea get their man remains to be seen but the transfer summer activity has started. Of sorts.
