Martinez Signs On At Chester

Former Swansea skipper Roberto Martinez has signed on the dotted line at Chester City following his release from the Liberty Stadium.

Martinez signed a two year deal at the nicely names Saunders Honda Stadium following on from what he would class as a frustrating end to his Swansea career as he explained to BBC Sport "I didn’t want to leave Swansea, but the decision was out of my hands so you just look forward,

"I’m delighted with my dealings with Chester and I’m looking forward to working with (manager) Mark Wright. The football challenge here excites me."

The move came after a week or so of contract discussions and Chester have reported that they beat off a few clubs for the signature of the Spaniard. Earlier in the week Wright had commented "We have made what I think is an attractive, revised offer to Roberto, and hopefully he will agree to join us".

Martinez was released following the play off final defeat along with Adrian Forbes who has joined Blackpool and Brian Murphy who appears to still be without a club.
