Scunthorpe United 2 Swansea City 2

Ten-man Swansea hit back for a point in a 2-2 draw at Scunthorpe after having midfielder Alan Tate sent off for a two-footed tackle early in the first half.

The Welshmen then suffered another blow when skipper Gary Monk was stretched off with a knee injury in the 27th minute.

But the Swans snatched the lead in first-half stoppage time when winger Andy Robinson popped up just inside the penalty area to go close with a right-foot shot.

Earlier, striker Rory Fallon had gone close for the visitors with a header that was scrambled off the line by Scunthorpe skipper Andy Crosby.

Scunthorpe were fired up at the start of the second-half and were back on level terms in the 49th minute when Crosby netted from the penalty spot after winger Cleveland Taylor had been brought down by full-back Tom Williams.

Scunthorpe continued to surge forward and went in front in the 68th minute when striker Billy Sharp dispossessed defender Kevin Austin in the area and then fired a shot through the legs of goalkeeper Willy Gueret.

The Swans were rocking, but they snatched a 78th-minute equaliser when Williams broke down the left and crossed high into the box for Fallon to head home from close range.

Jackett was left fuming with the decision to dismiss Tate and said: "It was one of a number of colourful decisions that the referee made all night.

"But it’s our first point of the season and now we are up and running.

"I thought we showed some great spirit after going down to 10 men so early in the game.

"There are a lot of positives we can take out of it.

"The one negative is the injury to skipper Gary Monk. He is now on his way to hospital with what appears to be knee ligament damage."

Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws was delighted with his side’s second-half display and feels he saw plenty to build on for the rest of the season.

"We had to step up 20 percent after our first half performance," said Laws. "I thought our second half display was outstanding.

"We quickly got back on level terms, then went in front and the only disappointment is we did not go on and win the game.

"Playing against 10 men is often difficult because it does fire up the opposition.

"But it’s our first point on the board and our second half performance gives us something to build on."
