Planet Swans ArchivesLeon Knight believes that Swansea could regret getting rid of him after his deadline day move to Barnsley – who beat Ipswich 1-0 yesterday thanks to a goal from the on loan Grant McCann.
Knight fell spectacularly from favour at the Liberty Stadium just ten months after a bargain move from Brighton. Never long off the score sheet, Knight was dropped from the side and immediately transfer listed with Kenny Jackett citing “Football reasons” and a “lack of work” as the main thinking behind his decision.
Knight was even exiled from training such was the lack of welcome for him at Swansea but all that ended this week when the Swans finally got rid of their man – albeit may just be for a short period of time. Speaking in the News of the World today, Knight said “I was told to score goals when I came to Swansea, that’s what I was paid to do and that’s what I did. That would be good enough for most people but what can you do when the manager goes against you?
“I still think they’ll go up. They were a good enough team to do it before I joined and they are still good enough so I’ll back them – I’d put money on them winning promotion and the fans deserve it.
“But I just hope Lee Trundle doesn’t get injured because without him they haven’t got a prolific striker any more. Bayo Akinfenwa and Rory Fallon are good build up players but they’ll admit that they won’t get 25 goals a season.
“Kenny is a proud man and he will always think he has made the right decisions and he’s allowed to have his opinion. I can be a right idiot on the training pitch at times and I’m a big moaner but that’s what strikers are like.
“But I never raised my voice to him and the rest of the players would tell you that I was no bad influence.”
Whether he was a bad influence or not, Leon Knight is now effectively in the past for the Swans and we should be hoping that he puts in a good spell at Barnsley to make a move somewhere a permanent one. There is no way back for him at Swansea and therefore we need someone else to have his wage bill on their books so we can move on as a club. Knight played his part while he was here and that should now, quite simply, b the end of it.
