Two goal hero Thomas Butler has set his sights on introducing a Premiership side to the Liberty Stadium after the Swans famous FA Cup victory over Sheffield United.
Butler, scored twice in seven minutes to send the Swans into Round Four against opposition that seven days earlier had defeated Arsenal at the same ground. Talking immediately after the match, Butler said “It’s a fantastic result, To go to Bramall Lane and come away with a 3-0 win against Premiership opposition is unbelievable.
“Personally, I’m delighted to have scored twice and get the penalty. Now it’s about time we got a big FA Cup game at the Liberty Stadium.”
The Swans have not been drawn at home in the FA Cup since they knocked out Preston at the Fourth Round stage three years ago and since then have been handed EIGHT successive away ties although two of them ended in home replays – both at the Vetch Field.
“I think another tie against Premiership opposition in front of a packed house at the Liberty Stadium is the least we deserve after today’s result,” added Butler.
“The manager told us not to fear any opposition and play our normal game. He told us to never back off regardless of what division the opposition is in.”It was a loss to go into the game without the likes of Lee Trundle, Any Robinson and Darren Pratley, but it shows the strength in depth we’ve got in the squad. For a League One side, I believe we have a really strong squad.”We started with a new 4-1-4-1 formation and it worked. We caused them a lot of problems, especially on the break.
“It was a brilliant win and games like this can really kick start your season. Confidence is sky high and we mustbtake it into our League campaign and really push on.”
Willy Gueret who had a quieter afternoon than he expected agreed by adding “I don’t know if I’d like a big club or one of the smaller ones at home in the next round. As long as it’s at home I don’t mind because we always seem to be away in the FA Cup.
“For the fans, though, I hope we get another Premiership club – but it’s got to be at home.”
