Away Days – Rotherham |
|
Why not visit our sponsors lounge This week’s away days is from the Rotherham game (the re-arranged, re-arranged match), I haven’t had time to write a report from Yeovil, but it was the same old story as the other trips to Huish Park. It’s now no wins and no goals for us there in 4 visits and it still takes ages to get out of that car park!! The coach for the trip to Rotherham left the Quadrant at around quarter to one, with 43 fans and two bus drivers on board. This game couldn’t be as bad as the Yeovil game, could it? There was a quick stop at Strensham Services – the usual stop – for a cup of coffee, before setting off again. There was also a guy in the toilets washing his hair in the sink, for some bizarre reason. So we didn’t stay there long! After a few traffic hold ups we finally arrived at the ‘King Henry’ pub just outside Rotherham, I think the name was referring to Henry VIII and not the guy who plays for Arsenal, it was the same pub that we stopped in against Doncaster & the original Rotherham game. Before long they’ll know us by name and what our usual is! We had an hour stop, but as I never buy my own drinks at the pub – as many have pointed out to me – my mate from Pembroke Dock did. Ugo’s travel arrived at Millmoor at around 7:15, for those of you that haven’t been before, it has really odd surroundings. Millmoor is right next to a scrap yard and a train track (our bus stopped on the level crossing, which was quite worrying) before reversing up a narrow alleyway – with barbed wire on the top of the walls too. The inside of Millmoor had changed slightly from my last visit; there was a new stand to our left. Last season it was just a building site, but it looked like they had run out of money halfway through building it though. Only half of the stand had seats. Oddly the game had to be delayed for five minutes, word was going around that Roberto needed an interpreter to translate from Spanish into Scouse, but these rumours may not have been true. We were situated behind the goal; there was only around 100 Jacks in the away end – one of the lowest away crowds this season in the league. It was hard to see the other end of the pitch – mainly down the red & white netting. That was proved in the first half when most of us thought that Trundle had put us 1-0, until we realised the ball had gone over the bar! How silly we felt. A few chants of ‘Martinez barmy army’ were sung. It’ll be louder at the coming games I would imagine. I had a rather nice steak and kidney pie and a mars bar at half time, but made a mess of it, most of it going on the floor rather than in my mouth. I don’t often buy food at footie grounds as I can’t be bothered to queue, but I thought I’d treat myself as it was quiet. The journey back was good – our first away win since Sheffield Utd and the first time we’ve won in Yorkshire in the league since February 2002! I actually managed to get some sleep and was able to stretch my legs. I was back and asleep at around 3:30am Wednesday, the next away trip is Tranmere a week Saturday and there are now no more midweek away games now, so at least I don’t need take anymore days off work.
