And From A Blackpool Perspective……..

So here it is once again, the final Saturday of the season. Are we going to hear the cunning and witty chants of ‘En-ger-land and Sheepshaggers?’. Will the Swansea fans be sh ing on the English side of the bridge again or maybe the will the game be postponed due a significant Earthquake in the Deep Valleys of Swansea? Who knows, all is to play for and all is to lose (for one team anyway).

As a Blackpool exile, now residing in Portugal, perhaps I am not in the position to write a report. However, I have recently stuck my Blackpool top on the wall in my local British Pub, so I think this gives me the right for a deep analysis and foresight into Saturday’s game. First of all, I would like to say how pi$$ed off I am with Simon Grayson. Fifteen odd years I have been wasting money following that football club and now the fans have something to should about, I can only cheer from a rundown bar in Portugal where I get funny looks because my kit is burgundy, orange and white all in one. I think that is why I escaped the UK, football what is it all about? Wake up in the morning, maybe play a few Blackpool records, call on your mates, drink some beer and engage in some pre-match excitement that is probably second to none. However, full time whistle blows….no one is speaking in the car journey home. You talk about the problems of the team, the stadium, etc. It’s all too much and coinciding with the £50 odd cost of it all, you then think it’s second to everything!

However, times have changed since the mighty Braveheart days and we are now proud of our football club once again. Stadium resembles a sunday league team but we can’t expect everything or else we would start to feel like a big club then like Swansea! Ahh Swansea, the team that causes many a sleepless night for PhilJack and co. Passionate, potential, Welsh are all words that spring to mind. From a place far away from Wales, one has the perspective that Swansea fans have a reason to be smiling at the moment. A potential 20,000 sell out for home fans, chance to make the play-offs, closing the gap on neighbours Cardfiff but some fans were not best pleased with proceedings earlier in the Summer. Jackett has since gone and now there is a little Spanish man called Roberto Martinez. At least he speaks better English than Benitez and doesn’t say, ‘No’ after every sentence.

Swansea need to beat Oldham’s result or gain 3 goals on them. Blackpool need a win and hope Bristol City lose and Forest don’t win. How exciting indeed. I suppose you could say this is what football is all about but I sometimes wonder. I think football fans prefer to talk about the negatives even when there are many positives around. I am not mentioning any names but I think it would be extremely fitting if Adrian Forbes was to win promotion for Blackpool with a last minute 40 yard diving header. I know Swansea wouldn’t like that ending but for me, that would touch my emotional side.
