Williams Bids His Farewell

Its’ been less than a week since Tom Williams was released from Swansea but enough chance to take a few swipes as so many seem fit to do when they are released from their contracts.

Williams was released last week along with Andy Oakes as Roberto Martinez began his rebuilding job ahead of next season as he looks to move Swansea onto the next level.

Williams has already said that a "massive" club wanted to sign him and that he knew his contract would not be renewed but in conversation with BBC Sport he added:

"I knew I was leaving at the end of the season, but still felt I should have been playing,

"I don’t know if the fact I was leaving was a contributing factor, but I was playing well and deserved to play.

"There were a few occasions where I would be brought on and we were losing or drawing.

"I’d have to make something out of nothing and I was doing it, but kept on being left out.

"In the end I wasn’t surprised. I did ask the question if it was down to the fact I was leaving, but was told it wasn’t.

"There won’t have been many teams with a better points tally than us in the last 12 games, but at the same time there were matches in the last 12 games where we could and should have done slightly better.

"Maybe slightly different tactics or team selection might have produced better results.

"A club came in for me in March but Swansea couldn’t agree a fee so it didn’t happen and we decided to put it off ’til the end of the season.

"To be fair I’ve been linked with five or six clubs which is a nice position to be in and I’m confident a deal can be done.

"Swansea are a force in League One and they’ve had two good seasons where they have been in and around the top six, but they still need to do a few things to go on a step.

"For example the training facilities need to be improved, they’ve got a wonderful stadium but you are only on it once every two weeks and you are on the training pitch every day.

"If you ask any player, they’d rather have a brilliant training facility over a stadium.">
