Pratley was earning good reviews when injury cut short his last season – he had been handed the captain’s armband following the injury to Garry Monk – but he was injured just days before Roberto Martinez took the helm and is yet to feature under his new manager.

But with pre-season training underway at the Liberty, Pratley is ready to go and earn his place in the midfield that has been strengthened with the arrivals of both Matthew Collins and Ferrie Bodde with possibly more additions to come.

“I spent a lot of the summer strengthening my shoulder and it is fine,” said Pratley. “The way last season ended for me was frustrating, but it was an injury that I could do nothing about.

“I’m just looking forward to working with the new manager and staff.

“Roberto was well respected as player, as a captain and he is as a manager. I’m just looking forward to the new season.

“There was a lot of competition last season for places and this year will be no different

“It keeps you on your toes and makes you work even harder. Having the extra competition there doesn’t bother me. I just want to play as many games as I can. I don’t really fancy being on the bench if I can help it.”
