Why not visit our sponsors lounge Of course, this will all change over the coming days as the squad begin to gel but, less than 24 hours after Scotland was given Home Office clearance to complete his move to the Liberty, Lee Trundle has spoken to the Western Mail about how he is looking forward to forging partnerships with his new mates. Rumours about the future of Trunds have been few and far between this season although some suggestions on the Bristol City sites have said that they are interested in a move for the man who is fast closing in on 100 goals for the Swans and ready to enter a fifth season in South Wales. And he has also admitted that he was sad to see Bayo Akinfenwa leave the Liberty after failing to agree terms on a new deal that would have seen him receive a one year contract with a guaranteed second year based on appearances. “Of course it was sad. Since I’ve been here, Bayo’s been the best partner I’ve played with,” said Trundle. “It was a difficult situation, but if you feel you’re not going to get first-team football somewhere then you do need to move on. “All I can do is wish him all the best. I’m sure he’ll do well, he’s a good player.” Over the weekend, Bussy said his only knowledge of Trundle was by watching You Tube clips of him after he agreed his move to Swansea and Trundle is as much in the dark about Scotland “I don’t know much about Jason to be honest,” said Trundle. “I have heard he’s got a lot of ability, but, at the same time, works very hard for the side which is what you want. “He’s a flair player and that’s how I like to think of myself, so it should be exciting. I’m looking forward to the new season and pairing up with him a lot.” Trundle was also full of praise for his new manager and his methods “The big thing with Roberto is the training I think has improved so much “Everything’s a lot sharper and quicker, he’s brought a lot of good ideas in with him and has no trouble getting that through to the players.” And finally Trundle has said himself a target of 20 goals again for the new season – a figure he has achieved every season here so far “I like to set myself a target and I believe with my ability I should be able to get that and more,” added Trundle. “Of course any side that wants promotion is going to need goals from everywhere and I think the gaffer’s brought in that sort of quality already. “We know it’s going to be tough, you look at the division and you know Nottingham, Forest will be up there. It’s hard to know with Leeds, but there’s always some surprises like Scunthorpe last time. “But for a club of Swansea’s size, it has to be promotion next time, the play-offs if necessary, but we’d prefer automatic of course.” And that goes for all of us Lee. |
