And From The Men Replacing Trundle |
|
Why not visit our sponsors lounge With Lee Trundle just about departed, attention on the forward line currently turns to Duffy, Bussy and Scotland who will now compete between them for the role of scoring the goals that for four years have been the responsibility of Lee Trundle. Speaking as Swansea and Bristol completed the finer points of the million pound switch, all three looked forward to the challenges ahead and back over their brief time here – all with a ringing endorsement from their manager. Duffy said, “I’m delighted that I got off the mark early in Sweden and it’s great to get goals, but right now it’s more important to get fit.” The influx of new players is bound to lead to increased competition for places in the squad, but Duffy doesn’t think it will affect team spirit. “The manager has made some fantastic signings and we have great competition for places all over the park. But there has always been good banter among the lads and that doesn’t change just because we have got good quality and competition.” Whilst Martinez felt that all the effort to get Duffy was worthwhile “It’s great that we managed to sort out a deal for Darryl. “In a way he was everyone at the club’s first choice this summer and he deserved it because of what he did when he was on loan here. He is a great boy and, if you look at his record, he is definitely someone capable of scoring 25 goals a season.” Bussy is yet to get off the mark in his appearances pre-season but he believes that it is just a matter of time before he changes that “I have really enjoyed myself so far and the only thing missing for me is a goal. But they will come if I work hard,” he said. “We have a good squad, they are all good mates and we are really going to enjoy this season.” He may be playing abroad for the first time, but Bussy is sure he will thrive on the competition for places and go on to be a success for the Swans. “Competition is the best thing about football,” he said. “If you haven’t got competition then you are not improving your football. I love it and I will be ready to compete with all the other strikers for a place in the starting XI. “I’m very confident that I can be a success here and I will do all I can to score goals for the club.” Something that Martinez agrees with “He is a fantastic boy, he wants to keep learning and I’m delighted that he wanted to come to us to progress his career. He is getting better and better with every game and that’s what pre-season is there for.” Jason Scotland has revealed that it was his friendship with Dennis Lawrence that persuaded him to head South to Wales after a successful spell at St Johnstone “We are good pals from our days together with Trinidad and Tobago and I’ve got the upmost respect for him,” he said. “He couldn’t speak highly enough about the club and that was good enough for me. “My first aim is to settle in, train hard and win a starting place up front. Only then will I be able to enjoy my football,” he said. “It’s going to be a good challenge for me, but I’ve got a fairly good goal-scoring record behind me and it’s something I want to continue at Swansea.” And it was the quick reactions of Martinez that secured the services of the striker who has yet to feature pre-season “It was one of those situations where we were lucky to be alert and sharp enough to sign him early on in the window. We had to fight with the work permit and I’m just glad everything went our way.” And somewhere along the lines, Swans fans will be hoping that Martinez faith in the three players will be recorded with plenty of goals as the Swans hope what many believe will still be a successful season. |
