Duffy’s Scottish Ambition |

Darryl Duffy is a proud Scotsman this week even though he had to listen to Scottish radio for their historic victory over France in Paris. As he prepares for tonight’s visit of Carlisle to the Liberty Stadium he couldn’t help but think forward and wonder if he can grab the goals to propel himself into the Scottish squad for next summer – assuming of course that they qualify. But even if they do get there and Duffy doesn’t feature he plans to be part of the ‘party’ in the stands anyway. Duffy is yet to find the net since completing his switch from Hull in the summer but that is a statistic that he hopes to break in the coming games and personally I believe he will get there this evening. Talking to the Western Mail on the eve of the match, Duffy said “I don’t know why, but I’m a slow starter when it comes to league campaigns, I’ve never really got off to a flier “I’ve always scored goals in pre-season, but for the first four or five league games it never seems to happen for me. “My main priority is concentrating on Swansea “But everyone’s got a desire to represent their country. That’s the next step for me and hopefully in the next year or two I can force my way in. It might be a little harder down here as I’m out of the way a bit and everybody is based up in Scotland. “But it’s a great standard of football – matching anything up in Scotland – and, if I’m scoring goals, I’ll be noticed. “It would be great to be part of what’s happening in Scotland right now, especially as I know a lot of the lads in the squad. “But if I don’t make it and Scotland reach the finals I’m sure I’ll be OK for tickets…and I’ll have to get the Jimmy wig out! “Can you believe it? I haven’t got Sky Sports at the moment – it’s coming this week – so I didn’t get to watch the game “So I listened to a Scottish radio station and it was incredible. I had a good laugh at the commentators – they must have burst every blood vessel in their heads! “But we’ve done brilliantly to top the group and qualification is in our own hands now.” What are your thoughts?
