Trust Back Loud And Proud

Swansea City Supporters Trust are backing the “Swansea City – Loud and Proud” campaign which is designed to bring the atmosphere back into the Liberty Stadium.

Members of the Trust have commented for some time that the atmosphere at the Swans’ new home does not create the intimidating “12th man effect” that so many in football refer to and the Trust have called on supporters to make more noise and get behind the team whilst the matches are in progress.

The Swans were backed by 2500 travelling supporters in a 29500 crowd at Elland Road last weekend and whilst the Swans support was very vociferous , it was the home support that was impressive and that kind of noise is what the fans would like to see replicated at the Liberty Stadium.

Trust Chairman, Phil Sumbler commented “It was depressing to hear several fans comment to me ahead of the Leeds game that they would rather watch away games than home games. We know that the team appreciate the significant support away from home when we are invariably outnumbered, but if we can work towards replicating that noise at the Liberty Stadium then it will become a very intimidating place for opposition sides to visit.

“It is disappointing to hear away fans make more noise than the home support at times and we are well aware that the atmosphere on the terraces can often transfer itself onto the pitch and affect the performances of the players. If we can create an atmosphere that is to be proud of from the stands, then it can only lead to lift the players and I have no doubt that in some games it will be the difference between maybe one point and three.

“Roberto himself has made reference to his twelfth man and that is what supporters should aim to become. I would encourage people to get behind the side vocally during the course of matches whilst, of course, remaining within the stadium rules. There is a happy medium that can be achieved around this and Swans fans are known for their passion and support, that is what we need to bring back to the Liberty Stadium.”

The Trust will be actively pursuing discussions with club representatives for ideas as to how the atmosphere can be increased, whilst working within any rules and regulations that are laid down by the Stadium Management Company.
