Roberto Martinez was full of praise for today’s visitors as he spoke on the eve of the game.
Brighton come to the Liberty having not won away from home all season but their home form has lifted them to the edge of the play offs. The Swans won’t experience that home form until the last game of the season in May but will be keen to ensure that the away record of the seagulls remains as depressing come the end of the match as it is at the beginning.
Speaking to the Western Mail, Roberto said “I wouldn’t say they will come and defend because I think their strength is the opposite they are good going forwards and attacking teams.
“Obviously they won’t come here and be that open but they are one of the teams that will try to counter-attack and hurt us on the break. We will have to be very alert playing against them.
“They are very energetic and they have got fantastic movement. They have a healthy arrogance on the pitch and young players that like to play attacking football.
“Dean Wilkins has done a good job bringing the youngsters through and giving them their chance in the first team.
“They have created something very strong with a huge belief and it’s going to be a massive test. But a very different one to the ones we had last week.”
Roberto also insisted that his team does have the much fabled Plan B available if needed as well as more
“The good thing about football is that everybody has got an opinion,” he said. “But I think we have a plan B, C and D with the options on our bench.
“You don’t need to go long and find a target man if you haven’t got that personnel in your squad. You need to find other plans and we can.
“We can move or change things around depending on the opposition we are playing. Maybe the obvious option is to change the whole thing and knock it long. But that’s not us.
“Our philosophy is that if you are good enough and patient enough then the quality will give you results. That’s what we have to do.”
