Roberto Martinez admits on the eve of his side’s visit to the Matchroom Stadium that Leyton Orient have been the surprise package of the season to date.
It seems there is always a surprise in League One with Southend and Scunthorpe being the unfancied champions of the past two seasons whilst Orient could add to that tally this year. They currently hold a three point lead over the chasing pack although that could be cut tomorrow and a Swans win would take them to within two points of top place.
Speaking to the Evening Post, Martinez said “Leyton Orient have been the surprise of the season so far, but without doubt they have what it takes to stay up there. They are as solid as you need to be to do well thanks to a lot of hard work from the manager. “He has created a group of players who know the division well and he has made some very good signings, like Adam Boyd up front, to increase their quality. “Martin Ling has built a tough side to play against, although in fairness they try to impose themselves on teams, too, so it should be an open game. “It’s one of those places where every visiting team is going to get a hard test this season and I see Orient as a top-six side.
“The table is unrealistic because Leeds have the best record but are not up there, and there are other sides you believe are going to be up there at the end of the season who are still finding their feet. “It’s early days, and the table is not as realistic now as it will be two months down the line.
“Our challenge tomorrow is to perform at our level, to show what we can do,”
