For The Fans Says Roberto

Roberto Martinez looked down from the League summit for the first time in his young management career and declared that this one was for the fans.

Of course it is still only mid October and nothing is won as yet, As Roberto himself admits, but it’s a nice feeling to know that at the moment all 23 of your divisional rivals are sat below you in the league table and you are suddenly seen as the team to catch.

It may only be goal difference that separates the Swans from both Tranmere and Leyton Orient and there is still the fact that Forest have a game in hand that needs to be factored in but the Swans are hitting some form – as nine goals in the last two away games tells you.

And it is a moment that Roberto intends to enjoy although his mind is already turning to the weekend visit of Hartlepool with a chance for the Swans to extend their lead.

Speaking on the club’s official website the manager said “It would be a big mistake if we got carried away just a quarter of the way through the season

“It’s nice to be up there, especially for the fans. It’s something for thm to celebrate – and they deserve it.

“But for the players and staff, it’s not something that is going to be in our minds. We need to work towards Hartlepool now and stay focused.

“I’ve always said the table isn’t realistic at the moment and we need to keep working hard. We have to keep improving and just look forward to the next challenge.

“It’s still early days and all we can do is keep focussed on the boys’ performances. But you can see the fantastic competition we have within our squad and we have to keep using that. At the moment we are looking strong and the boys are enjoying their football.”

And with many Swans fans predicting that the team have not quite yet hit top gear then it can only bode well when they do – there could be some very good times ahead
