Andy Robinson has elected not to sit down and talk new contracts with Swansea City just yet – preferring to concentrate on his football and winning back the place in the side he lost through injury.
Although Robinson sees his contract expiring next summer he is said to feel that the last contract talks affected his game just over 12 months ago and he does not want a repeat of that again this time.
Speaking in tonight’s Evening Post, club chairman Huw Jenkins says “Andy doesn’t want to think about sorting out his contract during the season because he feels that doing his last extension affected his game, “We have had held initial talks and Andy has made it clear that he is very happy to be part of the club. “He has told us he has no intention or desire to leave but he does not want to go into any deep contract discussions at this stage of the season. “We want to retain all our better players, but with Andy, just like every other player on our books, the decision has got to be mutual. “We’d like all our best players to be tied to the club for the next few years, but we can’t force people to sign anything. “We are not worried because we trust what Andy tells us. We just have to accept what he is saying and carry on.”
“One of the strengths we have this year is something we haven’t had for a long time,” he added. “That is having a very strong squad and not relying on individuals. “We have to remember that people may come and go and do whatever they want, but the club will keep plugging on as always.”
