Billericay manager Matt Jones believes his side have a 1 in 10 chance of creating a cup upset on Saturday afternoon when they entertain Swansea in the first round of the FA Cup.
The two sides are separated by over 100 places in the league standings and it will be Billericay’s first ever match against league opposition but Jones has refused to completely rule out an upset believing that they are ready to capitalise on any signs of complacency in the Swansea ranks.
“We could play Swansea 10 times and nine times they would probably win,” said Jones. “However, I’ve been to see them play and having done that I’m more confident now than I was before I saw them.
“Don’t get me wrong, Swansea are a very good side, but I have noticed a few weaknesses and, if they drop their performance level, don’t take us seriously or don’t respect the competition, then we could win.
“Although it’s a big game, it is still a football match with 11 against 11 and I want to implement a strategy to beat them.
“I played in games against Norwich and Charlton in the FA Cup, and I know that if you believe you can win, then that’s half the battle.
“You can see it with the boys that they are all keen to be in the side and they are all chomping at the bit to get in the team.
“The media exposure we are getting is superb. We had Sky coming down in the week as well as the national and local press.
“So it’s great for the club and hopefully the supporters who come down on Saturday will come back.”
