Monk Ready For Jackett

Monk again put in a solid performance at the back to continue his position as one of the side’s key and consistent performers in their rise to the top placings in League One and to keep them within touching distance of the top – they are currently three points away with a game in hand.

And whilst Kenny Jackett was not in charge for the game having been appointed just hours earlier, Monk is well aware that the return fixture on March 8 may well have been pencilled into many supporters diaries although he is keen to stress that Jackett deserves a good reception for the work that he did do.

Jackett’s reign at the Liberty came to an end earlier this year when he walked away from the role having led the club to a promotion, a play off final and three cup successes in a short period of time but was unable to capitalise on a big spending spree and take them the next step further.

Speaking after the game to the Western Mail, Monk said We’ll keep an eye out for that one

“I think Kenny should get a good reception at our place, he did well at Swansea and his record speaks for itself.

“He got us promotion and within a whisker of another one.

“He did well for the club and, no matter what people think about him, he deserves some respect.

“I think they’ll get out of trouble,” said Monk. “Kenny will get them organised and playing his way.

“He was massive on preparation and a lot of shape in training and he’ll make them tough to beat.

“They’ll be tough to break down and that is what they probably need right

“All the best to him, he’s had his time at Manchester City which will have been a good experience for him.

“He probably learned a lot there training with good players and working under Sven (Goran Eriksson). But he probably wanted to get into management sooner rather than later, and, if you get offered a job like Millwall, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t take it.”
