Whilst most of his team mates benefited from a well deserved break, Scotland was on international duty for the Soca Warriors against Guadeloupe.
And whilst he has returned fit from the trip, Martinez is as yet undecided as to whether to play him in the game against Crewe or rest him with games against Walsall and Port Vale coming up within a week.
“We spoke to Jason and to the Trinidad & Tobago Federation beforehand about the possibility of him not playing in the game,” said boss Roberto Martinez in tonight’s Evening Post.
“But they have just appointed a new manager and he wanted to meet all his players and see them.
“It might be a different situation in the future – their manager has made it clear that once he gets to know the players, he will be able to treat them in a different way.
“It may be then that Jason does not have to travel for friendly games, but in this case he had to and we have dealt with the situation in the best way we could.
“We don’t want to stop his international career and, while the nine-hour flight is not ideal, we are hopeful he will be feeling fresh.
“He only played 45 minutes of the game, which is what we asked for, and we’ll see how Jason is when we meet up with him.
“We will have to fight and scrap for every opportunity to play,” added the Spaniard.
“Crewe have the potential to be a lot a higher in the table and I believe it’s just a matter of time before they are out of the position they are in.”
