Extended Deal For Roberto?

Martinez was appointed last February on a three year deal that still has 20 months to run but Chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed that they are already considering the possibility of an extension given the success achieved by Roberto this season.

As one of the youngest managers in the Football League he has settled into the role as if it was made for him and his success was evident not just this season but last where he ended it with a fantastic run that almost saw the Swans sneak into the play offs – only a final day defeat to Blackpool prevented that.

And it is based on what he has seen over the last fourteen months that makes Jenkins and his fellow directors consider an extended deal "Naturally we want to reward Roberto for the job he?s done and to make sure that he is with us for a long time to come," said chairman Huw Jenkins.

"When you make decisions in football they often don?t work out, but we always felt Roberto was the right man to come in when Kenny left.

"The fact that we?ve been proved right means a mixture of satisfaction and relief.

"We have never been afraid to make brave decisions, and we felt Roberto would get the best out of our players and that his football philosophy was what we wanted to see at Swansea.

"He gave up playing to take over, so I am pleased for him that things have worked out.

"Roberto has never let me down in his commitment or his desire to work. He works extremely hard and that?s a key ingredient when you?re looking for someone to take your club forward.

"He has also shown he knows which players to bring in and,you consider all that, I don?t think we could have picked a better person to be our manager."

"We have got a good team of people who work hard and work together at this club," Jenkins added.

"Kevin Reeves (chief scout) is another workaholic who has watched hours and hours of football and we have targeted certain players.

"I know Roberto will want to reward the current squad for winning promotion by giving them an opportunity next season, but he is also looking for new players to help them along the way."
