Roberto Martinez

“We couldn’t give our fans a trophy but we felt it was important to give them something else to celebrate after a little bit of an anti-climax last week.

“Our celebrations seem to have come in instalments but our players did have one of the best days of their lives taken away and I’m disappointed by that. But we created our own atmosphere, a Vetch Field atmosphere, and we deserved our historic day. We must wait to see what happens, but if I’m honest anyone in the game would find it difficult to see the table changing now – and if it did for some reason then it wouldn’t be the end of the matter.”

Martin Ling

“It was a great sign of respect. They were very complimentary about us, and I think it shows football people know who’s top of the table and our fellow professionals know what these players have achieved.”
