Yesterday's papers linked the 29 goal scorer with a move to Derby County in a £2m deal and Martinez has reacted to that by admitting that he would like to keep his man at Swansea for some time yet. It reaffirms the statements that we aren't being forced to sell any of our top players and also signals an intent that we are not planning to be in the Championship just to make up the numbers.
And whilst the rumours are at the moment just that there is little doubt that Scotland's exploits in his first season at Swansea will have made managers sit up and take notice.
The Western Mail claims that Martinez will open talks to extend Scotland's stay at the Liberty beyond his current deal which expires at the end of next season.
Scotland who walked away with three gongs at last night's player of the year awards could take his season's tally to 30 this weekend if he scores against Brighton and former Swan Alan Curtis believes that his position as player of the year is fully justified “Jason was the top contender, though. To have 29 goals so far is a fantastic achievement. Anyone who scores that many goals has got to be up there with the best. Jason is no exception.
“And it’s not just that he scored a lot of goals, he scored them at crucial times. When Swansea needed him, he delivered.
“This has to be the fiercest competition we have had for the player of the year in ages,” he claimed. “That just shows how well we have done this season.
“It’s been such a good season that everyone was a contender for that award. A lot of players made huge contributions.
“When you look through the side everyone played vital roles in winning promotion. So whoever was going to win that award, they certainly deserved it.”
