I know it is silly season but this is one of the silliest to dates. Fleetwood has had one good season – the one just gone – where he banged in 32 goals for Forest Green as they secured a Top 10 Conference finish.
But prior to that he failed at Cardiff, Hereford and Accrington and this to me seems to be a link to us because the guy is Welsh more than anything else.
It is almost inconceivable to think that Roberto – with his track record of gaining overseas signings in particular – would look down to the Conference for a striker to help lead the line at Championship level.
Charlton though are a different prospect and they have been reported in more than one newspaper to be leading the chase for his signature. And maybe the fabrication of Swansea's name in there is either a cheap trick to attract attention from other clubs who may start an auction for a player based on his one good season outside the league.
Indeed, the South London press have already reported that he has signed for the Valiants and will complete the move this summer.
Roberto's eyes are very much likely to be attracted abroad again this season with various rumours flying around of moves for more Spanish and Dutch players and certainly if he was looking at the lower leagues or strikers in this country there are better than Stuart Fleetwood and his one good season.
Next silly story please – maybe it will be Mick Fleetwood next
