A goal from Dean Windass – a Hull fan – was enough to send the Tigers into the Premiership for the first time in their 104 year history and condemn Bristol City to another season of Championship football.

Trundle was denied a Wembley goal with just minutes left when his goal bound shot was blocked by a Hull defender and time ran out for the Wurzels as they attempted to come back into the game.

Windass had scored the only goal of the game with six minutes remaining of the first half when he volleyed in Frazier Campbell's cross for the only goal of the game.

Today's play off final means just one Championship place remains for next season and that will be filled tomorrow by either Doncaster or Leeds.

Today's game was watched by a play off record crowd of 86,703.
