“We’re Paying The Price For Doing So Well”

Whilst it would not have been on the agenda to lose Andy Robinson and potentially Ferrie Bodde this summer, both Chairman and manager are taking it in their stride as they look forward to the challenge of Championship football next season.

Bodde of course very much remains a Swansea player at the moment until the club's valuation of the player is met but with Robinson already departed for Leeds and rumours circulating regarding Jason Scotland, Mr Jenkins seems almost unsurprised that it is happening after watching his side walk away with the League One title last season.

Speaking in today's Evening Post, the Swans chairman said "We're paying the price for doing so well," he said.

"The games we won and the style we played meant more attention was paid to Swansea City and that helped the players.

"The success of the club has raised the profile of every player and that's brought interest from other clubs,'' added Jenkins.

"But we have been successful because of our manager, and we have to trust that our manager will continue to bring in a strong calibre of player."

Last summer the Swans spent relatively small amounts of money but enjoyed the benefits of Roberto unearthing gems in Angel Rangel, Ferrie Bodde and Guillem Bauza amongst others and there is confidence that the manager can do it again although he may be given the added benefit of a chunky kitty should Bodde or Scotland leave for big money moves.

And the confidence is clearly there from the boardroom as the Chairman added "We are in better shape than we have been for many years and we're looking forward to playing in the Championship.

"We have got a very good management team in place and one or two players leaving is not going to make a difference to us.

"Over the next couple of we'll be looking to get a couple of our targets signed up and I'm very, very confident that we will be a stronger squad in August than we were last year."

And with August still 8 weeks away who would bet against that being the case?
