The Swans have played pretty much their second string in both cup ties to date but the Swans captain wants to play his part in the welsh derby and admits that he is not likely to be on his own with that demand.
Speaking to the Western Mail after news of the draw broke, Monk said “I will be letting the gaffer know I want to play and so will the rest of the boys
“At the end of the day nobody will want to miss this game.
“There’s a few games before then, but there is already a buzz in the changing room about it.
“I have heard a lot about this derby since I came down here. But to play in one is great and something entirely different.
“I have played in a few derbies, the Sheffield one and the south coast one (against Portsmouth) when I was at Southampton. They were good, but this one will have an extra edge to it, especially at our place.
“It is Christmas come early for the fans and they couldn’t have asked for a better draw.
“It will be a good night and we can’t wait. Apart from Kris O'Leary, no-one in this squad has played in a derby down here.
“So it’s going to be a great first taste for a lot of us and hopefully we’ll get the right result, because you want to be part of the team that will go down in history.”
