telegraph.co.ukGoals from distance are causing major problems for Preston.Twice in successive games they have succumbed to long-range attempts.
Joey Gudjonsson delivered from 35 yards for Burnley on Saturday, then last night Swansea’s Ferrie Bodde retreated a further 10 yards before deceiving Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan to put the home side on the road a third successive defeat.
Swansea’s superiority was confirmed in the 79th minute when Jordi Gomez picked himself up after he was impeded by Jay McEveley and dispatched the penalty.
Roberto Martinez, the Swansea manager whose side had just won for the first time in six league games, said: “We had to learn from the heavy defeat at Reading and that was the perfect response.”
Alan Irvine, the Preston manager, said: “It was a fantastic goal but someone should have closed him down and Lonergan should have saved it. We had more than 20 attempts on goal but weren’t clinical enough.
