McCarthy: Only Reading Were Better

Swansea were unfortunate to go down to defeat at Wolves after a good performance that with some more luck could have seen them leave with at least a point in the bag.

A goal in each half from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake gave the home side a victory that returned them to the top of the league after Birmingham’s 1-0 defeat to QPR.

And McCarthy was understandably happy with the result but paid full credit to Swansea for their performance.

“It might have been another case of winning ugly a bit but a win’s a win,” said the boss via the Wolves official site.

“I was really worried about this game because Swansea are a very good team.

“They’ve got a way of playing and do it as well as anybody I’ve seen, their players look comfortable with the ball and want to pass it.

“In the first half I thought we dealt with it particularly well but in the second as the game got stretched it probably suited them a little bit.

“Of the teams we’d played so far Reading were probably the best but Swansea were excellent.

“Maybe they haven’t got the firepower that Reading have got but they are still a very good side.

“We try and win every game,” he added.

“You look maybe at some teams who’ve had seven draws and that’s seven points – win three and lose four and instead you’ve got nine.

“I can’t see the point – no pun intended – in too many draws – why not try and win them?

“We’ve been giving silly goals away but we’ll keep trying to win games and maybe that’s doing us a favour at the moment because we’re winning more than we’re losing.”
