Butler was floating in and out of the team under previous manager Kenny Jackett – a surprise when you consider it was Jackett that bought Butler to Swansea from Hartlepool.
But a string of impressive performances last season en route to helping the Swans to the League One title helped pick Butler’s form up and he now is one of the key players within Roberto’s team.
Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Butler said “You know where you are with Roberto – if you play well you stay in the team.ย That has not always been the case with the managers I have played under.
“Not only that, he has really changed my game.ย My job now is to stay pinned to the touchline and give us as much width as possible.ย ย That means I have chances to take people on and create.ย In the past I would be shifted to different positions and never really settled in one spot.
“Roberto has also worked on ways to improve me.ย The Swansea fans are now seeing the best of me due to that.
“I was brought in by Kenny but I didn’t always understand him.
“I’d play a few matches and then he would drop me.ย It was difficult to get any confidence under my belt and it was a frustrating time.ย I think if he was still the manager I wouldn’t be here now.ย My whole outlook has changed.”
