Cech was out of action for three months when he fractured his skull at Reading two years ago.
De Vries suffered his own horror moment in a collision with Martin Rowlands against QPR almost two weeks ago and he will be out of action until around the end of November.
His second stand in – Dimi Konstantopoulos saved a penalty in yesterday’s 0-0 draw with Doncaster but that was not at the forefront of Dorus’ mind as he reflected back on the moment that cost him a spell on the sidelines.
“Head injuries are dangerous,” he told News of the World “I was lucky.ย The officials must protect players, especially keepers.ย Everyone knows how serious Cech’s injury was.”
Cech still wears a protective helmet to play games at the moment although there has been no suspicion that Dorus will have to do the same on his return to the side.
