Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has denied making a ยฃ125,000 bid for Derry City winger Niall McGinn despite growing speculation over the 21 year old’s future at the Irish club.
Sources at Brandywell confirmed that a bid from an โunnamed championship clubโ was received but was immediately rejected. McGinn has attracted interest from Celtic but Derry City have refused the SPL side permission to take the Dungannon born product on trial.
Martinez has confirmed in the last 24 hours that the club have not made an offer for the highly rated winger as he told the SWEP, he said โWhenever we make a signing we will let our fans know.We have not made a bid for him.โ Despite the revelation from the Spaniard persistent rumours of the possible arrival of the former Dungannon Swifts player are very much present in the Irish media.
However should Swansea bid for the player voted the The Professional Footballers’ Association of Ireland’s young player of the year they will have to meet Derry’s full asking price as The Candystripes chairman Pat McDaid has warned , he said “If any club wants him then they will have to make an offer. We have had a couple of offers from Championship clubs but neither have met our valuation. There are no deadlines or anything like that. Niall has two years left on his contract so we would be happy for him to stay at Derry City.”
