Today’s News of the World proclaims that Swansea City are about to be the subject of a FAW investigation for the celebrations of Darren Pratley and Gorka Pintado in last week’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff at the Liberty
The report says
“The FA of Wales are set to launch an investigation into Swansea City’s controversial derby-day goal celebrations and could BAN two of their stars.
Darren Pratley and Gorka Pintado are in hot water for making provocative gestures following their goals in last Sunday’s fiery 2-2 draw with arch-rivals Cardiff.
“And the Swans pair could now be punished with a lengthy ban if brought to book.ย ย Welsh football chiefs are considering looking into potentially explosive celebrations by the Liberty Stadium scorers.
“Pratley and Pintado made breast stroke gestures with their arms – a taunt dating back to a hooligan related incident 20 years ago.
“Nearly 40 yobs were arrested after rival fans clashed following a Cup game in 1998.ย The brawl ended with Cardiff fans wading chest deep into the sea at Swansea Bay to escape the baying mob.
“An FAW insider said ‘We were aware of both goal celebration incidents taking place from the two players.
‘Everyone knows the significance of the swim-away taunt and it was inappropriate and ill-judged
‘One would hope that it was just over-exuberance on the part of the players but that’s still a little excuse.’”
