Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez has welcomed the arrival of pacy winger Nathan Dyer from Southampton, after the 21 year old joined on loan until the end of the season.

After a chequered few years off the pitch Dyer has found opportunities on it hard to come by. After spending the first part of this season on loan at Sheffield United the Wiltshire winger began to show signs of his early talent shown whilst in the Saints academy and has admitted he jumped at the chance to test himself at the Liberty Stadium as he told the SWEP, he said “Swansea were keen to get me as soon as possible and when a club comes for you straight away you know that’s probably the club you should go to .The gaffer here met me and he wanted me to play football and that’s all I wanted to hear really.

He added , “The first time I came here was when Sheffield United played here a couple of weeks back. I’d been to Cardiff before, but never Swansea. I’ve seen them play and they’re the best footballing side I’ve ever seen. I want to get games, score a couple of goals and, hopefully, go from there and we’ll see what happens at the end of the season. I was up in Sheffield on loan. I was training hard there, but I wasn’t really getting a chance,

Expressing the importance of securing the right players early in the January transfer window Martinez has admitted his delight at securing the services of Dyer so early as he told the WM, “It’s important you get the players you want early in January otherwise you often miss out. So it’s brilliant that we have been able to sort it out so soon after the window opened.”

One of the missing pieces of the Swansea City jigsaw has been the omission of a winger with pace something that Martinez and the board vowed to rectify this January and the club firmly believe that Dyer brings a different dimension to the squad as Martinez outlines “ We have been looking at the wide position for a while and we are delighted to welcome Nathan. He will bring a different dimension to our squad and, while it’s great to have him until the end of the season, if we can make it a permanent deal, that would be ideal.”

Working hard to land the highly rated Dyer, the former Burnley player ticks all the right boxes as the 35 year old revealed “We have had to work extremely hard to get him. Now we are just looking forward to seeing what he can bring to Swansea City. He ticks all the boxes as far as I am concerned. He is very hungry and he wants to be successful. He has had to go through a couple of difficult spells in his career. But now he wants to make up for lost time.”

Dyer is expected to make his Swansea début against his former club Burnley on the 10th of January.
