Pintado was due under the knife this month to end a long standing hernia problem.

But he has seen a slight improvement in recent weeks and has now delayed the operation until February 11 allowing him to play in the Swans next few fixtures.

Speaking to the Evening Post on the delay, Pintado said “Our decision was to delay the operation until next month

“I need to be pain-free after games.

“It is not so bad during games because I have a lot of adrenaline. It is only when I do some exercise I feel pain.

“There is less pain than before and that was why we delayed it.

“Sometimes when I kick the ball with my left foot I feel pain. Now, I am training harder but I feel a little better.

“I am more or less 80 per cent fit, maybe a little bit more.

“I will only be out for two weeks, possibly three – that depends on the operation – so I shouldn’t miss too much.

“It is very important that my operation goes well, but for now I must concentrate on playing well for the team.

“I can play more games now and I am looking forward to that,” he said. “I will be 100 per cent fit after the operation and I will be able to be play at my best.

“Until then I know I can play well for the team, and as a striker I want to score goals for the club – that is my job.

“It has been difficult so far but I know I can score goals.

“I can’t think about it because that will stop me from playing to my best ability,” he added. “When the time comes for the operation, then I will think about it.

“But for now, I look only at the games in front of us.

“We have some big games in the league and also the FA Cup.

“The FA Cup is exciting because the guys tell me a lot about playing against the smaller teams.

“I hope I can play a big part in both competitions.”
