Unbeaten in seven games, Colin Pascoe's reserves have become a difficult side to beat and with a blend of experienced players in Guillem Bauza, Tom Butler and Kristian O Leary and a host of new scholars that signed forms for the club last week desperate to impress the onlooking Roberto Martinez it was a game that certainly did not disappoint.
Starting at a frenetic pace the visitors took the early initiate and asked a lot of questions of a inexperienced Swansea defence but it would be the home side that were to have the first clear cut chance of the game when Chris Jones beat his marker for pace to send a low ball across the area but the waiting Kristian O Leary blazed his shot well over the bar.
However, the hosts were all at sea trying to cope with the industry of Forest Green Rovers with Jordon Prosser struggling to cope with winger Mike Trench. It would not be long before the crisp passing and lively forward play from the Gloucestershire club told when Majeed Warris coolly in space fired low into the bottom left hand corner of David Cornell's goal.
Spurred into life, Swansea fought back and it would be a moment of visionary brilliance from Tom Butler that drew the Swans level when from range the Irishman sent his shot past a well beaten James Nortei in the FGR goal.
Half Time Score: Swansea City 1-1 Forest Green Rovers
Whatever Colin Pascoe said to his tentative Swansea side in his half time team talk it certainly did the trick with the hosts coming out after the interval with a new focus. Breaking free on the far side Chris Jones left his marker and burst into the area and steered the ball comfortably low into the FGR's goal.
In the ascendancy, the hosts seized the momentum and were unlucky not to go 3-1 ahead after Tom Butler hit the bar only to see Guillem Bauza see his rebound shot blocked but the danger was not cleared as Matthew Whatley took full advantage of the little space there was in the non league side's area to make it 3-1.
The 100 or so supporters present (including five from Sweden keen to take in a reserve game) in the GenQuip Stadium would not have to wait long for Swansea's fourth and what a goal it would be after Butler outfoxed his marker to whip in a delightful cross that Chris Jones took no hesitation in to head home past a static Nortei in the visitors goal.
Swansea were threatening to cut loose but the hosts were to be pegged back in some style when substitute Issac Shane fired in from close range and then minutes later a impressive Waris got his second of the game to make it 4-3 but it that would be the end of the FGR fightback when Joe Harris with his back to goal held of his marker, turned and dispatched the ball past Nortei.
