The 30 year old has been linked with moves to FC Twente and FC Groningen but Swansea director John van Zweden is claiming that the former Ajax man will sign a contract this week with the Liberty Stadium club.

Van Der Gun was seen as one of the great prospects of the Dutch game and was even mentioned in the same light as Dutch legend and master of “Total Football” Johan Cruyff.

An untimely knee injury in 2001 put back the players development and when he returned faced competition in the Ajax ranks from the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rafael Van Der Vaart and Wesley Sneijder.

Facing an uphill battle to break into the first team at the Amsterdam Arena, loans to Willem II, home town club Ado Den Haag followed. When Borussia Dortmund came calling his injury curse struck again damaging his cruciate ligaments in his right knee, after just making 3 appearances for the German side.

Disconsolately returning from Germany, Van Der Gun signed for FC Utrecht and has made 52 appearances for the Utreg and has scored 17 goals

Should the reports coming out of The Netherlands be correct then Van Der Gun will arrive on a free transfer after being released by FC Utrecht.
