Bodde also attracted the interest of Bolton Wanderers this summer, who are thought to have bid up to £3.5m, but it was Wigan’s, and former boss Roberto Martinez’s interest that really tested the club’s resolve.

The Latics are believed to have made two offers of around £4.5m, with both heavily reliant on future installments with a lower fee up front.

Swansea would also have needed to share 50% of any fee received for Bodde with his former club ADO Den Haag, who agreed a sell-on clause when they sold the 27 year old.

But ultimately the Dutch midfielder settled down for a third season at the Liberty Stadium and is currently in negotiation over a new contract.

“We knew it was going to be quiet,” Jenkins told the Evening Post.

“We had one brief contact with Wigan, but they knew our stance and that hasn’t changed from day one.

“The bid was restructured, but it was completely immaterial how it was structured. Wigan were aware of that, but they still put it in.

“The terms of the payment had improved, but our stance on Ferrie remains the same and the offer was rejected.

“Ferrie is edging closer to full fitness and we are all looking forward to seeing him pull on a Swansea shirt again and bolstering Paulo Sousa’s squad.”

Bodde is expected to hand boss Paulo Sousa a boost by making his long awaited return from injury for the reserve team next Wednesday against Swindon.
