Butler Looking To Earn Starting Spot

Butler came off the bench on Saturday in the goalless draw with Barnsley – his first start under Paulo Sousa after surgery on a hernia problem before the campaign started.

He has been forced to sit on the sidelines and watch as the Swans have made a stuttering start to their league campaign but now he is back he wants to cement a starting place in the line up under the new manager.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Butler said “I just want to make up for lost time now, It’s been frustrating being out after the new manager came in because you just want to get back and show them you are a good player.

“It’s great to be back because being injured is obviously quite frustrating for any player.

“I’ve been back in full training for 10 days now and to get back and play this weekend was great for me.

“Considering everything that happened this summer it has just been unfortunate with the injury I had.

“Ideally I should have got it done before the season started.ut there was a bit of wishful thinking and I just hoped it would go away. The pain was still there in pre-season training, though, and it had to be addressed.

“Obviously it was bad timing for me, but I was only out for six weeks, so it’s not the end of the world.

“Obviously it takes time for people to blend in to different formations and the manager’s ideas, but I think it’s all coming now,” he added.

“We just need to gradually build things up coming into the next few games.

“I think we are getting there bit by bit and the results will come.

“Last year was the same when we had eight draws in a row, but then we just started winning and winning.

“I think it will be something similar this time round.”
