Voetbal International reported earlier today that the Dutchman had suffered a recurrence of last season’s injury which he suffered against Birmingham and sadly, it has now been confirmed.

Bodde made his long awaited return to the starting 11 in the win against Sheffield United but was forced off after just 6 minutes.

The replacement graft has ruptured,” confirmed Swans head physio Cerian Parham. “It’s very rare for this to happen as the graft is normally stronger than the original ligament.”

Swans chairman, Huw Jenkins, added: “It’s a big blow, not just for the football club but, more importantly, for Ferrie himself.

“He is devastated at the moment. But as a club we have told him we will look after him and stand by him every step of the way – as we did last time.

“He will remain a very important member of this football club. We all feel for him, and I’m sure every Swans fan will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.”
