Simpson will come face to face with Swansea City tomorrow with the Swans just three places below Newcastle in the Championship table.

Eleven games unbeaten have lifted the Swans to their highest league position for 26 years – something that Simpson admits he did not see coming.

Speaking to the Shields Gazette, Simpson said “They’ve got to come here and take us on

“We’re back at home, and we’ll be looking to play the same sort of football we did against Peterborough.

“I didn’t realise until I looked at the table recently how well Swansea were doing. They’re up there’ but we’re at home and buzzing with even more confidence.

“It was a tough away win at Preston and now we need to back that up. Swansea have had a couple of extra days rest, but the main thing is we are flying at the moment.

“Now we have four wins on the bounce, and earlier in the season we had five, so, hopefully, we can repeat that.”
